MALAYSIAN Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu is looking at setting up a new branch in Sibujaya.

According to MRCS chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee, the reason for a new branch is because Sibujaya township has grown to 30,000 people due to rapid progress.

“Sibujaya is developing quickly. Its population is increasing and businesses are expanding here. The township has promising future, hence the setting up of a new MRCS branch soon,” he said at a MRCS flag sale event at Pasar Tamu Sibujaya.

Chua said MRCS was eager to work with the local community to provide first aid courses and ambulance services.

“I think it is important because we have primary and secondary schools.

“We also have many people from Sibujaya who are keen to assist in our charitable initiatives,” he added.

Regarding the sale of flags, Chua said it was the first time the Sibu branch was carrying out a fundraising effort.

“This is because we want to introduce MRCS to Sibujaya residents and explain why we (MRCS) want to come here.”

Meanwhile, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Sibujaya chairman Paul Teo hopes that MRCS will receive strong support from Sibujaya folk.

“We know that MRCS performs the noble duty of assisting in emergencies.

“So, directly or indirectly (if we contribute to them) we will also benefit,” he said at the collaboration between MRCS and PDP for the flag sale.
