The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Department of the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) is dedicated to promoting mental well-being and providing psychosocial support to individuals and communities affected by crises, disasters, and everyday life stressors. Our mission is to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, offer immediate psychological support, and enhance resilience through practical interventions. We aim to empower communities by integrating mental health into disaster response and community health initiatives.
Current Projects/Initiatives:
Training of Trainers (ToT) for Community Health Workers (CHWs): We are currently training a batch of CHWs to deliver basic mental health and psychosocial support services.
Ongoing Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training with IOM for Immigration Officers: In collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), we are conducting specialized PFA training for immigration officers, equipping them with the skills to offer immediate psychosocial support in their daily work.
NADMA-Supported PFA Training for Community Resilience Building: We are also running a project, supported by NADMA, focused on training communities to build resilience through Psychological First Aid (PFA), strengthening their ability to respond to crises and disasters.
Ongoing Support for Staff and Volunteers: We continue to provide mental health and psychosocial support services to MRC staff and volunteers, ensuring their well-being as they carry out their duties in high-pressure environments.
MHPSS Booth and Screenings: We offer mental health screenings to the public/ corporate companies, raising awareness and providing direct support to attendees.
Key Achievements:
Trained Over 1000 Learners in Psychological First Aid (PFA): Our department has successfully trained more than 1000 individuals in PFA, enhancing their capacity to provide immediate psychosocial support during crises.
Mental Health Symposium: Our department played a pivotal role in organizing and delivering a well-received talk on ‘Self-Care’ at the Mental Health Symposium in collaboration with Amanie Care Foundation, impacting over 100 participants.
Webinar Series for Emergency & Ambulance Department: Conducted a series of webinars to integrate mental health awareness into emergency medical services, attended by over 80 staff members.
