MALAYSIAN RED CRESCENT WELCOMES COURTESY VISIT FROM REPUBLIC OF KOREA NATIONAL RED CROSS

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 June 2024 – The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) was honored
to receive a courtesy visit from the Republic of Korea National Red Cross (KNRC) at
the MRC National Headquarters yesterday, 12 June 2024. This significant event
marks a pivotal occasion for international humanitarian collaboration and the
exchange of best practices in humanitarian efforts.

The visit led by Dr. Chul-Soo Kim, President of KNRC is aimed at strengthening
bilateral cooperation between MRC and KNRC including enhancing ongoing
cooperation and mutual support in humanitarian efforts. It also underscores the
commitment of both organisations to provide timely and effective support to those
in need across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

During the visit, both organisations engaged in fruitful discussions and exchanges
on best practices in disaster response, emergency preparedness and community
resilience. The collaborative dialogue aimed to enhance each organisation’s
capacity to address the challenges and needs of vulnerable communities more
effectively. The discussions also emphasised the importance of youth exchange
and the promotion of youth volunteering as vital components of building resilient
communities.

Such collaboration can lead to more effective disaster response strategies,
improved emergency preparedness and stronger community resilience. By working
together, both MRC and KNRC can provide comprehensive support and also
resources enhancing the overall capacity to respond to crises.

Key participants in the discussions included HH Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku
Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Tunku
Temenggong Kedah, National Chairperson of MRC, Hj. Hakim bin Hj. Hamzah,
Secretary General of MRC, Ms. Eunyoung Park, Director General of the
International and Inter-Korean Cooperation Office and Ms. Juja Kim, Deputy
Regional Director of the IFRC.

As part of the visit, the KNRC delegation toured the MRC’s warehouse and
facilities. This provided an opportunity to showcase MRC’s logistics capabilities
and resource management in effective disaster response and humanitarian aid
delivery. The tour facilitated a deeper understanding of operational practices and
identified areas for potential collaboration and support.

The MRC welcomes contribution and support from the community and corporate entities to join in our
humanitarian efforts to provide vital aid and support to those in need.
