SUBANG JAYA, 9 April 2025 — The National Chairperson of the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC), Her Highness Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Tunku Temenggong Kedah paid a visit to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at the Putra Heights Mosque today to meet with families affected by the recent gas pipeline fire. The visit served to underscore MRC’s commitment to standing with communities affected by disasters and emergencies, providing not only immediate relief but also ongoing support throughout their recovery.
Since the onset of the incident, MRC has swiftly mobilised its emergency response teams, deploying over 30 trained volunteers from the Selangor Chapter supported by the Kuala Lumpur Chapter. These volunteers were among the first to arrive at the scene, where they rendered immediate first aid to burn victims and assisted in transferring the injured to nearby hospitals. Their presence extended to three evacuation centres, namely the Masjid Putra Heights Multipurpose Hall, Dewan Camellia Putra Heights and Sri Mahamariamman Temple where they provided critical assistance in managing shelter operations and supporting displaced families.
In response to urgent needs, MRC also distributed essential relief items including ready-to-eat meals, food packs, hygiene kits, mats and blankets. Basic health screening services were offered to vulnerable groups particularly the elderly and young children while psychological first aid and psychosocial support were provided to individuals experiencing emotional distress.
MRC’s efforts have been conducted in close coordination with multiple government agencies including the Department of Social Welfare (JKM), Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Civil Defence Force (APM) and several local non-profits. This multi-agency approach ensured a well-coordinated and efficient response to meet the diverse needs of the affected community.
“The Malaysian Red Crescent is committed to being present with the community not only during disasters but throughout the process of recovery. The strength of our volunteers and the spirit of humanity they bring make all the difference in times of crisis. Our volunteers have been on the ground since the beginning offering not just aid but hope and reassurance. We will continue to be here for as long as needed,” said Her Highness Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz.

The MRC continues to work closely with emergency responders and local authorities to assess evolving needs, provide timely assistance and ensure affected families are supported. MRC welcomes contributions from the public, corporate partners and community organisations to support its ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
