Geneva, Switzerland – Michelle Chew of the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) has been elected as the Chair of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Youth Commission. This esteemed position was announced at the 24th IFRC General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland on October 23.

Representing Malaysia among 191 participating countries, Michelle Chew secured 41% of the votes, outpacing four other candidates to lead the IFRC Youth Commission. This election reinforces the voice of Malaysian youth and women on the global stage as they address pressing humanitarian issues.

Michelle Chew stands as a symbol of active female leadership in advancing gender equality principles in leadership roles, in line with MRC and IFRC values that prioritize inclusive participation. With this recognition, MRC hopes to inspire more women to engage in humanitarian initiatives and demonstrate their potential in bringing positive change to society.

The presence of Her Highness Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz, Tunku Temenggong of Kedah, as a board member of the IFRC, further highlights Malaysia’s dedication to fostering women leaders internationally.
