Malaysian Red Crescent Urges Immediate Protection of Civilians Amid Rising Global Conflicts

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 April 2026 – The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) expresses deep concern over escalating conflicts worldwide, which continue to cause immense human suffering, displacement and loss of life. Civilians including women, children and the elderly remain the most vulnerable, facing death, injury and the destruction of homes, hospitals, schools and essential services.

Aid workers including volunteers from Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies continue to deliver lifesaving assistance under challenging conditions. Attacks on humanitarian personnel and infrastructure violate International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and endanger the delivery of critical aid.

“Humanity, compassion and the protection of civilians must guide all humanitarian response. The most vulnerable must be safeguarded, humanitarian workers allowed to provide aid safely, and the principles of International Humanitarian Law respected. All affected communities have the right to safety, shelter and essential services. Only through solidarity and commitment to these principles can we uphold human dignity in times of crisis,” said Her Highness Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Tunku Temenggong Kedah, National Chairperson of the Malaysian Red Crescent.

Global crises continue to affect humanitarian needs and refugee flows, highlighting the importance of solidarity and compassion worldwide. The scale of conflicts and crises continues to grow, making the protection of civilians and safe humanitarian assistance more critical than ever.

The MRC continues to monitor global conflicts and stands ready to support regional and international humanitarian efforts in coordination with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and partner National Societies.

It calls for the following to be respected at all times:

• Civilians must be protected
• Humanitarian personnel must be protected
• Civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and medical facilities, must be protected
• The Red Cross and Red Crescent emblem must be respected and protected

The MRC reaffirms its commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and calls for continued respect for IHL.
