Position Overview

The Communications Assistant Manager / Manager is responsible for leading and delivering integrated communications that strengthen the Malaysian Red Crescent’s reputation, visibility and public trust.

The role covers both strategic planning and hands-on execution across all communication functions, ensuring consistent, ethical and impactful storytelling that reflects humanitarian values and organisational priorities.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Communications

  • Plan and implement integrated corporate and digital communications strategies aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Ensure consistency in messaging, tone and visual identity across all communication platforms and materials.
  • Support senior leadership with key messages, speeches, talking points and official communications.

2. Internal Communications

  • Manage internal communication channels to engage staff and volunteers effectively.
  • Draft and coordinate internal announcements, circulars, newsletters and leadership messages.
  • Support organisational initiatives and change processes through clear and timely communication.

3. Brand & Creative Design

  • Safeguard and strengthen the organisation brand in line with the Malaysian Red Crescent Visual Identity guidelines.
  • Oversee the design and quality of all visual materials including digital assets, reports and event collateral.
  • Provide creative direction and ensure high standards across all outputs.

4. Content Development & Storytelling

  • Lead the development of compelling, accurate and ethical content that highlights humanitarian impact, services and organisational credibility.
  • Write, edit and adapt content for different audiences and platforms including digital, social media, publications and campaigns.

5. Social Media & Digital Platforms

  • Plan, manage and grow the organisation’s social media presence across relevant platforms.
  • Develop content calendars, campaign narratives and platform-specific content including short-form video and audio adaptations.
  • Monitor performance, engagement and trends, providing insights and reports to inform strategy.
  • Ensure responsible and timely digital communications during emergencies or sensitive situations.

6. Multimedia Production

  • Conceptualise, script and oversee the production of multimedia content including videos, interviews and podcasts.
  • Coordinate filming, recording, editing and post-production.
  • Maintain a digital asset library for institutional use.

7. Media Relations

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with media and journalists.
  • Draft and coordinate press releases, media statements, Q&As and key messages.
  • Support media interviews, press briefings and crisis communications when required.

8. Publications

  • Plan, edit and coordinate organisation publications such as annual reports, e-newsletters and strategic documents.
  • Ensure high editorial standards, accuracy and consistency across all external communications.
  • Liaise with designers, printers and external partners as required.

9. Campaign Communications

  • Plan and coordinate communications for organisation events and campaigns.
  • Oversee campaign branding, media coverage, live content, documentation and post-event reporting.
  • Support communication and protocol requirements for high-level and VIP engagements

10. Team & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Work closely with internal departments, chapters and partners to ensure cohesive communications.
  • Coordinate external agencies, vendors and creative partners to ensure timely delivery and quality outputs.

Qualifications & Requirements

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Media Studies or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in communications, digital content or public relations, preferably within corporate or humanitarian/non-profit organisations.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English and Malay.
  • Strong understanding of social media strategy, digital storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Experience in multimedia content production, including creative design, video and audio content.
  • Knowledge of branding, visual communications and creative quality control.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and stakeholder management skills.

Language Proficiency

  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia.
