Malaysian software development company dJava Factory contributed RM15,000 to the MRCS International Relief Fund in aid of the Haiti Earthquake disaster victims.

The cheque was presented by dJava Factory’s General Manager, Ms. Wong Siew Hui to the MRC National Chairman, YM Tunku Tan Sri Dato’ Shahriman Tunku Sulaiman at the MRC National Headquarters today.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Ms. Wong Siew Hui said that her staff and company were moved to contribute something upon reading that half of Haiti’s general population were under the age of 20. » read more »

Red Cross Red Crescent intensifies relief and plans for early recovery in Haiti

The leaders of the world’s largest humanitarian organization are on their way to earthquake-devastated Haiti as part of a massive disaster response and recovery operation.

On 12 January 2009, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale has struck Haiti.  International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) estimated about 50 thousands people were feared dead and thousands more were  missing, injured and separated from their families, lost their home and livelihood, buildings and structures collapsed, telecommunications out of order and no proper shelter, food or clean water supply. » read more »

The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) was successfully elected as a Member of the Governing Board at the recent elections of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Cross Societies at the 17th Session of the General Assembly held in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya from 18-21 November 2009.  

The MRC represented by its Deputy National Chairman received third highest votes in the Asia Pacific Region, ranking amongst the top 10 in the overall placing of National Societies elected into the Governing Board.
