The first Malaysian Red Crescent Secretary General, Datuk Datin Paduka Ruby Lee receives the Henry Dunant Medal, the highest distinction of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, during the Award Ceremony which was held at the Malaysian Red Crescent Headquarters yesterday. Datuk Ruby received the Medal from Yang Amat Berbahagia Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Datuk Ruby Lee joined the Malaysian Red Crescent in the early 1950’s to chair the fund raising committee of Selangor Branch. Her active involvement led to her appointment as Secretary General of the MRC in 1965, a position she held until 1996.
She devoted her life to the MRC and to the cause of the movement. Datuk Ruby is also the initiator and architect of many achievement attributed to the Red Cross and Red Crescent. Driven by her humanitarian conviction, she went way beyond the call of duty to alleviate suffering and bring comfort to those in need.
Known widely as the “Jewel of the Malaysian Red Crescent”, Datuk Ruby Lee is an iron lady blessed with natural grace and a caring heart. She nurtured relationships with colleagues and volunteers while synergizing their energies and potential for the benefit of the community as well as their individual development.
Meanwhile at the said ceremony, Datuk Ruby is also received the Malaysian Books of Record Certificate for “Longest Serving Secretary General – in Humanitarian Services” by the Founder and Managing Director of the Malaysian Books of Records, Datuk Danny Ooi.
